A family favorite! Certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Closest international airports are Bilbao and Biarritz, but it is also reachable by car from Madrid (approx. 4 hours drive). The city is deeply connected to its Basque heritage and culture, and the main language still spoken there is the Euskara (one of the oldest languages in Europe). Here is a 3 day itinerary, just enough to absorb the city and its surrounding:
- Playa de la Concha: Perfect way to start the day, and the kids can play on the beach.
- Alderdi Eder Park: A beautiful park on the promenade with a carrousel and a cute playground.
- Mount Igeldo Amusement Park: Take the funicular railway to the summit of Mount Igeldo and it will take you to a vintage 100 year old amusement park with spectacular views.
- Aquarium de San Sebastián & Eureka! Science Museum: Two must-visit experiences for families with kids!
- Walk around the Old Town: Have lunch in one of the Pintxos bars, then grab a cheesecake from La Vina.
- Zurriola Beach: Here you will find surf lessons and other beach activities.
- Restaurants: La Rampa, Casa Camara, Bodega Donostiarra, Gandarias, Carai for brunch, La Vina, Narru, Rekondo
- Biarritz for the day: Only 30 mins drive from San Sebastian, this French coastal town is not to miss. Take the open air train from La Grande Plage to learn about the history (the kids will love it), then head to Rocher De La Vierge and Plage Du Port Vieux. Stop for a seafood lunch at Chez Albert, then ice cream at Glace a Biarritz.
