Lisbon

There is something special about the warmth of the Portuguese and their hospitality that makes traveling there with kids so enjoyable. Lisbon is equally magical in winter as it is in summer, with a mild climate making it a perfect for a year-round destination. This itinerary covers a mix of historic, modern, and fun attractions for an enjoyable family trip!

  • Rossio Square: Rossio is the liveliest square in the city. Take a tram ride on the historic Tram 28, passing through iconic areas and providing a scenic tour. Have lunch at Time Out Market, where you can find anything from kid friendly meals to dishes by Michelin-starred chefs.
  • Lisbon Cathedral and São Jorge Castle: A perfect place to take a picture of the city´s stunning views. The kids will love exploring the castle’s walls and towers. Head to Ramiro for lunch for the best seafood in town.
  • Dinner in Alfama District: Alfama district is known for its charming narrow cobbled streets and steep hills, but keep in mind it is not a stroller friendly area. This is where you go to enjoy an authentic Portuguese dinner and listen to traditional Fado music. Parreirinha De Alfama restaurant is one of the oldest in the city and is just a really beautiful experience.
  • Book a Sunset Sailing Tour: If you go in winter, make sure to take a very warm jacket. Highly recommend Lisbon Sailing Tour, they have a luxury sailing yacht that is not over crowded and the crew is just top.
  • Parque das Nações (Oceanarium, Lisbon Science Museum & Cable Car): Ideal for a rainy day. Start off at Lisbon Oceanarium which is one of the world’s largest aquariums with over 8,000 animals. Grab a quick lunch then get hands on at the Science Museum which is particularly nice if you have younger kids. End the day at Telecabine de Lisboa, a short but fun cable ride car.
  • Jardim Da Estrela: Lisbon’s largest park with a playground and a lake offering paddle boat rentals.
  • Day Trip to Cascais: A must on a sunny day!! Start at Praia Da Rainha beach which is at the heart of the city then walk around the old town. Visit the Marina and Marechal Carmona Park, where you will find a small lake and a playground. Have lunch at Monte Mar, an amazing seafood restaurant with sea views. End the day at Boca do Inferno, meaning Hell´s Mouth in Portuguese. It is a cliff formation that offers breathtaking sea views and is known for its open cave structure.
  • Sintra: Pena Palace, Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira are the top 3 sites to see, which unfortunately we couldn’t because it was heavily raining that day (unusual for Lisbon!)
  • Belem: You can not leave Lisbon before trying the famous Pastel de Nata at Pasteis de Belem (Portuguese custard tart). It is heavenly! Walk along the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery and have lunch at Vela Latina. You can also explore the Maritime Museum nearby.
